Because of using the openVpn, I am able to remotely access our company server from anywhere in the world. Since I have a primarily administrative job, but also do a bit of traveling, this has allowed me to stay connected. I also recently had to move out of state for family, but was able to keep my job since I had the access to files..
I sometimes miss updates and have to connect with a tech team to help fix that.
This has allowed multiple staff to work from home (during acclimate weather) or on the road when needed. So nothing gets missed or delayed due to other circumstances. In my line of work, that's pretty important for our clients.
OpenVPN has been simple to deploy and use in our environment. We use it as a second option for remote connection in case our other system is unavailable for any reason.
There is not much to dislike, perhaps reporting could be a bit more robust, but for our small deployment, it isn't an issue.
* Secondary connection in case other technologies fail * Cross-Platform support of remote connectivity - Apple does not work with Microsoft Direct Access * Allowing Macintosh users to work remotely * Allowing remote IT Management
I appreciate how easy it is to install OpenVPN on a new machine
Sometimes it's difficult to understand the error messages, you have to dig through log files
We have saved time and improved security by consistently going with OpenVPN rather than other solutions which require us to continually tweak and alter the configuration
The features are mostly all there and quick to setup and maintain. I like controls I can use within the system and the flexibility. The price is the main selling point.
The Setup for this is going to be hard for main sys admins out there. The level of networking knowledge required to get it working correctly might be hard for many. The two factor authentication implementation is poor. This should be much more configurable, and self servicing for users. LDAP/Active Directory authentication could be better. I would like to see a profile for each user that signs on so 2FA can get reset or custom settings can be applied. follow the Sonicwall SRA/SMA model here would be preferred for more power and flexibility.
Just VPN connectivity for internal users. I will occasionally configure a VPN for a consultant/customer that only allows them access to certain systems.
I like the freely availability of OpenVPN client to most operating system. Also the web interface is very easy to configure.
The web interface is not able to reach a top grade with Qualys SSL Server Test, and this is against our security policy.
Giving University personals and students access to internal servers.
Strong security and very reliable VPN tool
At times it looks like very complicated tool to use and also have proxy issues some times
Connecting with our secured stage and prod servers.
gives extremely secure connections between private networks, Almost impossible for someone to tap or interfere with data in the VPN tunnel
to follow the company's own policies on your home computers
you can connect to your company from anywhere in the world.
this works well with my linux based database server, the vendor can get right in and fix things with out my intervention
there is nothing that I do not like. it works
easier access for support to fix db problems
Easy to use and setup. Upgrade information on product from supplier when avvailible. Security recommendations on website.
I'd like user to end up at different VLAN depending on client checks (AD member computer/cert or external clients.
MFA demands on VPN solution.
I like that OpenVPN is one of the more secure VPN solutions out there, and that it has good client support.
Because the client is not built in to the operating system on Mac and Windows, there can be integration issues. The big one for me is when OpenVPN does not override user DNS settings and they're unable to resolve hosts on the remote network.
We use it to gain access to our network in a public cloud provider.
It’s easy and user friendly great addition to your business
It should be free and the price more affordable since is open software
Sucure internet and commercial transactions for our clients
Works well and it’s free. Clients for all major OS’ and even mobile devices. Server built into both Synology and QNAP NAS boxes.
Server is only available for Linux and can be cumbersome to setup. Client setup can be clunky as a result having to use config files.
Remote access to office LAN resources. Once properly setup, works exactly as designed.
OpenVPN allows you to surf the internet as if you were located at a specific geographical point, allowing you to enjoy the freedoms offered by this place. A particularity of OpenVPN is that it offers its service to companies so that its workers can work as if they were in the preferred site of this company. It is a service with an affordable price for anyone who wants to use it.
Occasionally, OpenVPN has sudden disconnections, which, in many cases, suddenly expels its users from the website they are working on. Sometimes I have had to test websites that can only be opened by residents of the UK, and when disconnecting OpenVPN I have been expelled from them, interrupting my work and sometimes preventing me from re-entering the site. It was these disconnections for no apparent reason that made us switch to Open VPN for Amazon Web Services, the latter offers a VPS service that is much more stable.
At the time, OpenVPN helped us to perform tests and any other kind of work on web pages that required an IP address that did not belong to the United States. However, due to its multiple disconnections we had to replace this with Amazon Web Services.
The software is very smooth, quick, and reliable. Easy to setup too.
Nothing really to dislike. It's cheap, easy to use , and powerful
Secure connections country wide to a secure data center back at the office
Easy to setup and configure. Widespread adoption.
Missing admin UI features like unlocking accounts and 2fa
Accessing resources at AWS.
It connects us to our work systems safely so our clients' information doesn't get comprised.
Nothing I can think of, I've never had a single issue with it. It's always worked fine for me.
Our agents work from home, so this allows us to connect safely with our work systems and work in a secure environment.
Not many popups and no additional software that I'm forced to download, doesn't have tons of patches or updates which prevent usage for periods of time.
When Open VPN is running, my laptop's performance is drastically reduced and I can't seem to figure out why.
This product allows team members to work from home without disrupting normal workflow.
