It is simple and easy to use. I can see all the projects my team is working on and also when they have sick leave / personal day off. There are helpful how-to videos in case you are wondering how certain tasks work.
I have not come across any problems yet.
I'm new my team, so it is helpful for me to learn everyone's title and what projects they are working on so I can come to them for help whenever I need it.
Love that it has given us clarity on prep vs execution time for projects & team capacity.
There's a lot of manual data entry - the spreadsheet template for uploading doesn't quite capture everything.
We adopted float to centralize team capacity management. The reporting is much more complex than anything else we've used and gives us a sense of how we're doing throughout the year.
user friendly, nice aesthetic and being able to link to other software
not being able to drag across dates with the mouse, not being able to see more dates on the app, the constant need to sign in every day
being able to easily manage teams and different departments
The app has very responsive and intuitive UI. It's also easy to use as a User since I can log all my accomplishments and tasks for the day with just a few clicks
Can't think of one thing I dislike so far.
Managing and tracking resources.
Float is a great tool for us to use for project management. We can see easily and clearly each team members schedule.
If there was an element where the teams could log their work hours that would be great, as we have to use another product for this.
We can plan well in advance on which project each team member is working on, so there is no confusion or double booking of staff on projects.
Really easy to deploy and use, good learning curve. See in one layout all the resource allocation and filter by projects and employees (even inside the reports) are great features.
Even when it's easy to deploy and the learning curve is asequible, requires more clicks than expected to control a full workforce can be long. A more detailed report would and custom fields on projects and employees be great.
Clear view and controlling of the workforce. Forecasting of the workload. Dropping excel.
Tracking jobs? Check. Seeing team load by account? Double Check. Seeing if a colleage has got time to help you with a non-work realted favour? Mutha-flippin Check all over that.
No biggie but my one complaint is that you need to refesh it to see changes as it's web based - I've missed things in the past.
Timesheets have gone from big pain to big easy. I can see a particular cross section of jobs specific to me
easy to use, easy to understand, customer journey is really good, lots of functions, easy and good design, intuitive, good service, scheduling is easy and viewable
you can tag a project as billable but you cant tag single tasks as billable or not. i would like to have the opportunity to tag every single tasks as billable or not. also, if you have small tasks with 1h or 2h for all of your people, you really have to spend a lot of time to maintenance.
long term planning is really good with float and you can also use great report functions. iits a very easy way for everyone to see how people are scheduled
- It helps the management plan better for future projects - Especially where there are multiple concurrent projects and time is split into unpredictable chunks between multiple team members. - We use time budgets to ensure we aren't going over
- Percent of time budget used is not obvious from the Log Time screen - On more than one occasion it has led to surprises, we didn't realise we had exceeded the budget till it was too late
We use time budgets to ensure we aren't going over. Keeps the company profitable.
* Provides an overview of scheduled work and staff availability for forecasting and scheduling * Ability to assign consultants to specific projects, while also assigning individual tasks. * Minimal duplication of work as the system maintains the lifetime of the projects * Ability to link to Jira tasks and assign to specific staff * Ability to report on time staff have spent on Projects * Can easily see budget vs actuals when adjusting workload * Easy to schedule timeframes * Can view based on teams or individuals
Not a lot we didn't like, but it would be great to have; * Task breakdowns * Two way Jira linking (Currently only from Jira) * Pull more data from Jira (Timeframes etc
One of our main issues was determining where staff were assigning their time and how to effectively scheduling upcoming work. Using Float, we are now able to easily determine staff workload schedules, provide deadlines to staff and customers and provide our Sales team with accurate availability for forecasting.
The schedule view allows for a quick overview of my teams capacity and the recent functionalities of budget tracking and multiple-member-tasks makes it even easier to keep track of my projects.
Some of my projects are quite small and only take either a small part of my day or don't take very long. The schedule view (which I use most) is not very ideal for moving around all those 1-2hr tasks. Luckily this is not a problem for the bigger projects. Besides that I think it is not very realistic to plan for an 8hr workday; this is often not the reality (with e.g. breaks etc.). This has the effect that there is a mismatch between the allocated budget and the actual time that has been spent on the project (compared to the time tracking software we use).
Float makes sure that our whole team is realtime up to date about everyone's availability and makes sure that we have both a good idea of our project planning in the weeks ahead and are able to inform our clients about our availability very quickly.
The ability to see the bigger picture at once.
Better time management with the project items.
To see how many hours I am committed to or assigned on a different project or task.
The simplicity and immediacy of the timeline interface is massively important for digesting and understanding an often hectic and clogged schedule. Customisation of clients, projects and tasks means that we can see, at a glance, exactly what clients and projects we are working with - it takes a lot of the project management stress out of the process for teams like mine, who need to focus on their own tasks at hand.
I think there could be more options to input information within the tasks in a schedule - although there is a notes section, it would be great to see more integration with other platforms like the Google suite (Drive, slides, docs) that could streamline our process even more.
Float has honestly been a game changer for our studio and as a result, the wider business. The minute we first started using the platform, it transformed the way we visualise our busy schedules and communicated with the wider teams about our availability and timelines. It's made our lives easier and simplified the overall production process - taking a lot of guesswork and confusion out of the equation.
Float allows me to see at a glance what I need to be working on and when.
I can't really think of any negatives at the moment.
It's an easy way to see what my deadlines are for particular projects.
Visual interface that is easy to use and provides solid reportin
Not much, it is pretty slick and has the bulk move now
Resourcing, future forecasting
It's easy to use and you'll be able to plan hours over time. That way you'll have a quick overview on how much time somebody is planned.
It's not easy to see milestones in a project.
With Float we're able to plan ahead and create easy to read capacity-reports.
I like the connection between time scheduling and time logging – it really minimises the amount of work to be done for each individual to log time, and lets users focus on the difference between projected and actual time.
I'm based in Australia and the public holidays need to be updated. Also, I'm booked on a lot of projects and it's be great to have more flexibility in colour-coding in the schedule view, so they don't all look the same. :)
I think everyone's getting more consistent at logging their time because Float has made it easier and quicker. Scheduling has also become more streamlined too due to the multiple birds-eye views over the organisation's time that Float provides.
Float is straightforward from a user perspective. Compared with some other time-tracking solutions, time tracking is simpler because administrators can pre-fill time slots. I have yet to have any issues with it. Slack integration is especially nice.
I do wish there was better feature parity between mobile and web, but otherwise, I have no major complaints with Float. Float allows me to easily input my time tracking.
Time tracking. I have noticed that inputting time with Float is simpler and more intuitive than comparable solutions.
The layout is simple and clean making it easy for me and my team to keep track of our daily tasks. When I first started using it, it took me just a little time to familiarize myself with the buttons (and there's only 4 tabs) and everything else is a breeze.
Personally, I find it a bit hard to keep track planned vs actual side by side unless I open it up in two browser tabs. Hopefully the team will improve on this in future updates.
It give me the ability to track the actual time spend on each task especially those which are not originally in the planned schedule. This is important to improve productivity and act as a good reference for better future planning.
How easy it is to use Float. You don't need any tutorial or anything, it's very straightforward.
The level of detail that you can have when you export your data.
Tracking time in order to understand how I am distributing my time between projects.
